Uncovering the 'hidden mechanical momentum'
Description
A number of authors have invoked the concept of a hidden mechanical momentum in the solution of classical electrodynamical problems. In particular, Aharonov, Pearle and Vaidman have argued that its inclusion negates the classical analysis of the Aharonov-Casher effect undertaken by Boyer. In this paper, the true nature of this momentum is uncovered, and the refutation of the Boyer analysis investigated. 9 refs
