A possible splitting of the isovector vibrational state due to triaxiality

  • 1. Tuebingen Univ. (Germany, F.R.). Inst. fuer Theoretische Physik

Description

A microscopic calculation of the restoring force for isovector scissor vibrations using the wave functions of a triaxial Woods-Saxon potential shows that the experimentally observed splitting of the isovector M1 state in 164Dy(50 keV), 168Er(70 keV) and 174Yb(200 keV) could be attributed to the presence of a possible small non-axially symmetric deformation (γ=0.80, 10 and 30 respectively).
