Description
Biosensor research, development and applications are surveyed from the perspective of current and future directions. Biosensors are devices incorporating a biologically active element in intimate contact with a physico-chemical signal transducer and an electronic signal processor. Two main classes are distinguished according to the type of interaction leading to signal generation: metabolism sensors and affinity sensors. The technological aspects stressed by discussing the sensors according to their inherent degree of integration
