Bound states of linear defects in biaxial nematics and superfluid liquids

Description

It is shown that linear defects in biaxial nematics may form dynamically stable bound states if these defects are linked, almost parallel, and repel one another. Such a situation is possible for pairs of linear defects with a certain topology. This effect can also be observed for nearly parallel vortices in superfluid liquids and superconductors
