Certain methods for generation of polarized high-energy electron beams using proton synchrotrons

Description

Certain arrangements for obtaining polarized high-energy electron beams using proton synchrotrons are examined. They are based on the transfer of a portion of the proton energy to polarized electrons of a thin target located in the working region of a synchrotron. It is proposed to use as polarized-electron targets magnetized crystalline iron in which proton channeling takes place, polarized atomic beams, and polarized plasma. It has been demonstrated that this method produces polarized electron beams with energies approx.100 GeV, energy spread +- 5%, and intensity approx.107 electrons/sec at approx.30% polarization, and with an intensity approx.104 to 105 electrons/sec at approx. 100% polarization
