Emergence and interest of radiofrequency and microwave in tumor ablation in veterinary medicine
Description
The field of interventional oncology is thriving in veterinary medicine, thanks to technological advancements in imaging and the specialization of veterinary practice. Thermoablation is an example of a therapy that is highly appealing due to its wide range of applications and relatively affordable cost compared to other therapies such as radiation therapy. In this context, it is important to provide an overview of our current knowledge on the subject, including its mechanism of action and its applications in human medicine, as well as the advancements made in veterinary medicine to date. This work focuses on the use of radiofrequency and microwaves. The objective is to create a knowledge base for veterinarians interested in incorporating thermoablation into their practice. The intrinsic workings of radiofrequency and microwave ablation are detailed, allowing for an understanding of the procedure's process. Additionally, an overview of the use of these two methods in human medicine is provided, including various indications, contraindications, and complications depending on the affected organ. Finally, a discussion is conducted on their potential use in veterinary medicine in the years to come. (author)
Abstract (French)
(auteur)
