SWAAM code development, verification and application to steam generator design

Description

This paper describes the family of SWAAM codes developed by Argonne National Laboratory to analyze the effects of sodium/water reactions on LMR steam generators. The SWAAM codes were developed as design tools for analyzing various phenomena related to steam generator leaks and to predict the resulting thermal and hydraulic effects on the steam generator and the intermediate heat transport system (IHTS). The theoretical foundations and numerical treatments on which the codes are based are discussed, followed by a description of code capabilities and limitations, verification of the codes by comparison with experiment, and applications to steam generator and IHTS design.
