Radiological evaluation of the BNFL Purged Posting Port under highly active alpha conditions

Description

The Posting Port uses a gas purge to sweep the exposed seals and to minimize any particulate deposition. The efficiency depends on the velocity and distribution of the gas. A total of 5000 simulated posting movements was performed and the resulting airborne and surface activity monitored. Results are given. The unit proved reliable and easy to operate, and would with a routine monitoring procedure, provide a viable alternative to existing methods of bag posting. (U.K.)
