Initiating event analysis for a BWR low power and shutdown accident frequency assessment

Description

Previous Probabilistic Risk Assessments have, for the most part, excluded consideration of accidents initiated in low power and shutdown modes of operation. A study of the risk associated with operation in low power and shutdown is being performed at Sandia National Laboratories for a US Boiling Water Reactor. A necessary task of this study involves determining the set of initiating events applicable for the various operating modes. This paper discusses the identification of the set of initiators to be analyzed in the study. 7 refs., 1 tab
