Cygnus X-3: Is it unique
Description
On the basis of ground-based observations spanning the range of 10/sup 11/eV to 10/sup 16/eV, Cygnus X-3 has been established as a source of very high energy radiation. However, in view of the deep underground results the nature of that radiation is not clear. This paper discusses recent observations, at very high energies, of two X-ray binary pulsars, Hercules X-1 and 4UO115+63, which may be similar to Cygnus X-3. All emit very high energy radiation, all are binaries, and if a recent possible observation of a cyclotron emission feature from Cygnus X-3 is correct, all contain spinning neutron stars
