Description

Full text: The Low Energy neutrino Monitor (LEM) is an iron/scintillator calorimeter that will be employed to measure the on-axis neutrino flux at the T2K experiment in the energy range 0.2-1 GeV. The T2K experiment is a long baseline neutrino oscillation experiment utilising a suite of detectors at 280 m from the neutrino source and the Super Kamiokande detector at 295 km where the oscillation measurement will be made. The measurement performed by the LEM will improve the understanding of the uncertainties of the neutrino beam spectrum at energies below 1 GeV, which is a key region for the T2K neutrino oscillation analysis, as well as improve the general understanding of the beam characteristics. In this talk, the physics motivation of the project, the detector construction and preliminary results obtained by using cosmic rays will be presented and discussed. (author)
