Techniques for ultrafast quenching (splat cooling) of refractory oxides

Description
Splat cooling techniques suitable for quenching of pure and mixed oxides from temperatures above 20000C at rates of approximately 105 K s-1 are reviewed. The include projection of the liquid oxide at a very high velocity against a metal plate with the use of a plasmatron or shock waves, and squeezing the molten sample between two metallic bodies (hammer and anvil, or rollers).
