An atomic absorption Spectrophotometric method for the determination of lead and cadmium in regular soft drinks

Description
Regular soft drinks are most widely used in summer season of Pakistan climate. Various Spectrophotometric methods have been reported for the determination of Pb and Cd in the soft drinks. An atomic absorption spectrometric method is described for the determination of these elements in regular soft drinks. After, degassing the sample, digest 100 ml. of sample solution in 4 ml. of conc. HNO/sub 3/ and 4 ml. of conc. H/sub 2/SO/sub 4/ in 250 ml round-bottomed flask, under reflux for 30 minutes. Add H/sub 2/O/sub 2/ 35% drop wise and heat again, but with out reflux until all sugars are oxidized to CO/sub 2/ gas. The remaining sample is evaporated till near dryness, the residue is then dissolved in 0.1 N HNO/sub 3/, filtered through Whattman 42 filter paper and washing the ash with demonized water till the final volume is set up. The sample is then atomized into an Air-Acetylene flame. The method and results will be detailed. (author)
