SPECT - Single Photon Emission Computed Tomography

Description

The principle and characteristics of SPECT, a relatively new imaging method is discussed. Different kinds of SPECT instruments, and the aspects of diagnostic application are described. Details are given on examinations of the central nervous system, the abdomen, the heart and the skeletal system, on the possibilities of immunoscintigraphy, and also on the indications of SPECT studies and the clinical performance. Finally, the state and future of this technique in Hungary are considered. (author) 46 refs
