Beam transport magnets for the 3-pass race-track machine
Description
The machine is composed of 5 different subsystems: - The linac in which transverse focusing is provided by a periodic structure of FODO cells. - The spreader which separates beams having different energies at the exit of the linac. - The arcs which deflect the beams by 180 deg. - The long straight sections composed of FODO cells which transport the beams from one arc to the next and contain a set of path-length adjustment dipoles (doglegs). - The recombiner which recombines beams of different energies at the linac entrance. A total of 181 main dipoles, 493 quadrupoles, 96 sextupoles and 600 corrector dipoles is necessary to transport the beam through these subsystems. In this paper, the required characteristics of these beam transport magnets are presented
