The onset of friction in heavy ion transfer reactions
Description
The transfer reactions induced by 28Si on 130Te at E/Vsub(c)=1.2 show bellshaped angular distributions and Q-values close to the classical estimates. However for angles smaller than the grazing angle, the average Q-values decrease strongly; this is accompanied by a broadening of the Q-value distribution. These facts are interpreted as the onset of strong friction where the longer contact time bends the outgoing particles to forward angles and broadens the energy distribution due to multiple interactions. For these first steps of the deep inelastic reaction, the diffusion model was applied. The drift and diffusion constants for the energy dissipation derived from the experiment agree with models treating the radial friction
