Description
The thermal desorption spectroscopy of hydrogen in hydrides is a new technique in which the rate of desorption is measured as a function of temperature and the temperature is increased with time. The authors present the thermal desorption spectra of HfV2Hsub(x) and ZrV2Hsub(x) for various initial hydrogen concentrations. The spectra for both hydride systems develop from one peak at low initial hydrogen concentrations to at least three peaks at the highest measured hydrogen concentration. The activation energies for desorption and the pre-exponential factors are derived from the Arrhenius-like initial region of the spectra. The results are compared with neutron diffraction and nuclear magnetic resonance data and are discussed in terms of a model suggested previously. (Auth.)
