Irreversible radiation-chemical transformations of protoporphyrin in reactions with OH radical and H atom in 2 N H2SO4

  • 1. Institut Biofiziki, Moscow (USSR)

Description

A study was made on γ-radiolysis of 5 x 10-5 - 5 x 10-4 mol/dm3 protoporphyrin in 2NH2SO4 saturated with air and argon. Dose range 10-100 Gy, dose rate 0.17 Gy/s. It was revealed that the process proceeded according to the chain mechanism. Protoporphyrin interaction with OH radicals leads to formation of products with similar molecular mass; interaction with H atoms - to formation of products with higher molecular mass as compared to protoporphyrin. General schemes of the chain processes iNitiated by OH radical and H atom taking account of inhibiting effect of formed radiolysis products are suggested
