The neutron irradiation effect on intermetallic uranium-aluminium compounds at low temperatures

  • 1. AN Gruzinskoj SSR, Tbilisi. Inst. Fiziki

Description

The influence of neutron radiation at lower temperatures (100-1200K) on intermetallic uranium-aluminium compounds is studied. The irradiation of intermetallic compounds UAl2 and UAL3 by an integral flux of thermal neutrons 3.1018n/cm2 leads to disappearance of their X-ray diffraction pattern. That phenomenon is shown to be connected with the size reduction of middle-sized grains (100-300 A) in the compounds, i.e. X-ray amorphization phenomenon. (author)
