Licensing requirements

The Act ratifying the Joint Convention on the Safety of Spent Fuel Management and on the Safety of Radioactive Waste Management appoints the Committee on the Use of Atomic Energy for Peaceful Purposes (CUAEPP) as the regulatory body. The licensing regime in Bulgaria is briefly described. The main current legal requirements for licensing of activities in the field of the radioactive waste management like Basic Standards for Radiation Protection; the Regulation No. 5 of the CUAEPP on Insurance of a License on the use of atomic energy; the Regulation No. 0-35 on use of sources of ionizing radiation and other ionizing sources; the Regulation No. 7 of the CUAEPP on the collection, storage, treatment, transport and disposal of radioactive waste on the territory of the Republic of Bulgaria and the Regulation No. 46 of the CUAEPP and the Ministry of Health on the transport of radioactive substances are in detail presented. The future amendments are also mentioned. In conclusion the Novi Han repository has performed actions towards upgrading of the facility and shall continue its effort towards completion of the envisaged upgrading measures
