Description
Two antipodal effects of silicon on carbon precipitating from the volume of Re-C solid solution to the surface were revealed. Small amounts (NSi ∼ 7x1013-2x1014 At/cm2) of silicon stimulates the carbon precipitation, leading to growth of graphite monolayer even on the surface of nonsaturated Re-C solid solution, where intrinsic precipitation is not observed at any T. At amounts of NSi ∼ 1.4x1015 At/cm2, corresponding to surface silicide, silicon suppresses completely carbon precipitating from supersaturated Re-C solid solution
