Description
Chemical, engineering and technological aspects of the processing of different hazardous wastes (industrial and municipal wastes) in high temperature thermal plasmas are reviewed, which consists of two separate parts. In the firs part characteristics of plasma systems for waste processing were presented along with the relevant technical and economic information on the thermal plasma technologies, with the objective of decreasing the environmental impact of different industrial wastes of high metal content and communal wastes. In the second part details on the thermal plasma processing of military wastes, nuclear wastes of low radiation level, organic wastes from the chemical industry and of medical wastes are discussed. Some problems of the relevant research and development, and the perspectives of thermal plasma technologies in terms of waste processing are also reviewed. (author)
