Nasopharyngographic CT scan: method and value in the diagnosis of nasopharyngeal carcinoma

Description
Objective: To study the method, clinical value and indications of nasopharyngographic CT scan in the diagnosis of nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC). Methods: Forty-three cases of suspicious nasopharyngeal neoplasm with pharyngeus recess abnormality showed by plain CT were selected for this study. All cases were proved with fiberoptic nasal endoscopy and pathology. Results: Nasopharyngographic CT scan could clearly demonstrate the normal or abnormal appearances of pharyngeus recess. There were 19 cases with single pharyngeus recess abnormality (four kinds) and 18 of them was NPC proved by biopsy. Conclusion: Nasopharyngographic CT scan is helpful to find out the small NPC lesions at the pharyngeus recess if used in proper indications
