Unusual behaviour of fusion-fission at barrier energies for a neutron-rich halo nucleus

Description

Relative fission cross sections were obtained for 9Be+238U and 11Be+238U. The results were analysed within a coupled-channel model. The fission excitation function for 9Be+238U agrees with the fusion theoretical calculation while the fission excitation function for 11Be+U could not be reproduced by a simple fusion calculation.
