Reduction of a trivalent uranium complex in tetrahydrofuran by pulse radiolysis: first direct evidence of the uranium II oxidation state

Description
In this study, it was found that the solvated electron generated by pulse radiolysis of tetrahydrofuran is able to reduce the triscyclopentadienyluranium III. The transient uranium species formed through this reaction is the first divalent species hitherto described in the literature. It was characterized by its absorption spectrum and the kinetics of its formation and its disappearance
Abstract (French)
L'electron solvate cree par la radiolyse pulsee du tetrahydrofuranne est un agent reducteur puissant. Il a ete utilise dans cette etude pour reduire le triscyclopentadienyluranium III. Le complexe d'uranium II ainsi forme a ete caracterise par son spectre d'absorption et par l'etude cinetique de sa formation et de sa disparition. C'est la premiere fois que le degre d'oxydation II de l'uranium est mis directement en evidence.
