Description
The critical laser beam intensities necessary to observe the lifetime shortening of metastable nuclear states induced by a high-intensity laser beam are discussed. The special role of the giant dipole state built upon the metastable state is pointed out. The possibility of direct γ emission in forbidden O+→O+ transitions is predicted. (author)
