Low-temperature conversion of uranium oxides to uranium hexafluoride using dioxygen difluoride

Description
The fluorination of uranium oxides to volatile uranium hexafluoride with elemental fluorine requires temperatures of 300 to 4000C to achieve appreciable conversion rates. Until now no gaseous agent has been reported that will efficiently carry out this technologically important transformation at low temperature. In this paper, the authors report such a reaction using dioxygen difluoride at room temperature
