Diffusion model for the oxidation of zirconium at 573 and 623 K

  • 1. Dpto. Combustibles Nucleares, Comision Nacional de Energia Atomica, Avda. Libertador 8250, 1429 Buenos Aires (Argentina)

Description

The diffusion model presented is able to describe the parabolic and cubic behavior of the pretransition oxidation kinetics of polycrystalline zirconium in dry oxygen during isothermal oxidation treatments at 573 and 623 K. The model considers that the dynamic process of crystallization and recrystallization during oxidation modifies the oxygen diffusion coefficient, by decreasing the number of short circuit paths in the oxide.
