Effect of a discharge current on collisional broadening of spectral lines in gas-discharge media

  • 1. Odessa State Univ. (Ukraine)

Description

An analysis of the effect of a discharge current on the collisional broadening of spectral lines in gas-discharge media through direct collisions of excited atoms with free electrons and also through the change in interatomic collisional broadening because of gas heating by the discharge current is presented. The homogeneous broadening and the frequency shift are shown to depend essentially on the thermal operating conditions of a laser. A specific calculation is performed for the 0.63-μm spectral line of a He-Ne laser. 16 refs., 1 fig
