Survey on environmental radioactivities in the area around the Tono Mine. Research report of the study entrusted by Nuclear Fuel Cycle Development Institute
- 1. Waseda Univ., Tokyo (Japan). Advanced Research Center for Science and Engineering
Description
An environmental survey has been made in the area around Tono mine continuously from 1971 aiming to elucidate the changes in natural environment and the influences of scientific research and industrial development on the surrounding natural environment. In this study, the radioactivities of radon and its daughter nuclides in side the pit of Tono mine were determined and uranium and radium contents in various samples collected around the mine, fine particles in the air, river water, drinking water, soils, etc. were analyzed. The results from the present survey showed that the effects of the mine on the natural environment are not significant. (M.N.)
