Hanford's minor explosion makes impact world-wide
Creators
Description
An investigation is in progress of an incident at the Hanford site in August 1976 when, following a chemical explosion, the front of a glove box shattered injuring a worker who received multiple cuts and first and second degree burns from nitric acid used in the box's ion-exchange column for extracting americium. A brief account is given of the incident and the radiation exposure. It is suggested that the incident may focus new attention on safety procedures at Government facilities. (U.K.)
