A Summary of the Results Obtained in Quality Control, Inspection and Testing of Fuel Materials for the First Charge of the Dragon Reactor Experiment. Dragon Project Report

Description

The results obtained in the quality control, inspection and testing of the zirconium-uranium and thorium-uranium carbide coated particle fuels and consolidated fuel cartridges fur the first charge of the Dragon Reactor are summarised and discussed. It is concluded that the methods of inspection and assessment which were adopted were readily capable of detecting changes in the quality of the materials produced and that these materials were of a consistent level of quality and fully acceptable for the purposes envisaged in the first charge of the Reactor Experiment. A more meaningful analysis of the significance of the available data will be possible when the irradiation behaviour of the materials has been established. (author)
