New calculations of neutron response functions of Bonner spheres with helium-3 detectors

Description
We report our benchmark calculations performed with one- and two-dimensional SN-codes in the adjoint mode. Special emphasis is put on multigroup treatment of neutrons in the high and low energy ranges including upscattering, taking account of hydrogen bound in polyethylene. Sensitivity studies show the effects of the steel wall and the stem of the proportional counter together with the influence of changes of the moderator density. The responses are compared with recent measurements. (orig./HP)
Abstract (German)
Wir berichten ueber unsere Benchmark-Rechnung, in deren Rahmen der Neutronentransport mit ein- und zweidimensionalen SN-Programmen in adjungierter Form behandelt wurde. Die Bereiche schneller und thermischer Neutronen sind so in Gruppen unterteilt worden, dass die Aufwaertsstreuung thermischer Neutronen unter Beruecksichtigung der Wasserstoffbindung in Polyaethylen zuverlaessig erfasst ist. In Sensitivitaetsstudien wurden der Einfluss des Stahlgehaeuses und der Kabelzufuehrung des Proportionalzaehlrohrs und die Auswirkung verschiedener Moderatordichten ermittelt. Die Ansprechwahrscheinlichkeiten werden mit neuesten Messwerten ueberprueft. (orig./HP)Additional details
