Response of water Cherenkov detectors to small signals: a case study
- 1. VATLY Lab., Institute for Nuclear Science and Technology, 179 Hoang Quoc Viet, Nghia Do, Cau Giay, Hanoi (Viet Nam)
Description
Detailed studies of the response of the VATLY water Cherenkov detector, a replica of those used in the ground array of the Pierre Auger Observatory, are presented with, emphasis on the response to low amplitude signals. The method used is to detect electrons from muons stopping in the water volume. Results include properties of the detection process as well as of the atmospheric cosmic ray flux. (author)
