The 6Li(6Li,p)11B and 6Li(6Li,n)11C reactions and their implications for fusion of light ions

Description

The 6Li(6Li,p)11B and 6Li(6Li,n)11C reactions to particle stable states have been investigated at beam energies from E=2-16 MeV. The excitation functions and angular distributions of the respective neutron and proton groups are quite similar. The excitation functions for some final states (1, 4/5, 7, 8, 10/11) are structureless while others (0, 2, 3, 6, 9) exhibit pronounced resonances. The presence or absence of resonances is explained with the air of a correlation diagram obtained within the framework of a diabatic two-center shell model. Resonances are attributed to the emission of a nucleon with angular momentum of l' = 3 which has been promoted from a 1p3/2 orbit of 6Li into a 1f7/2 orbit of 12C while the other eleven nucleons combine to particle stable final states with Jπ = 3-/2, 5-/2 and 5+/2. Amplitudes of wave functions like vertical stroke11B* x π1f7/2 > or vertical stroke11C* x ν1f7/2> are suggested to act as doorway configurations in the process of fusion at certain beam energies.
