Magnetic resonance presentation of a patient with arhytmogenic right ventricular dysplasia

Arrhythmogenic Right Ventricular Dysplasia (ARVD) is a type of cardiomyopathy, characterized pathologically by fibrofatty replacement of the right ventricle myocardium and clinically presented most frequently by ventricular tachyar-rhythmias originating from the right ventricle. ARVD is one of the causes of sudden cardiac death. Diagnosis is established based on the Task Force Criteria. MRI is the mainstay imaging modality able to demonstrate not only fatty replacement but also functional abnormalities of right ventricle and right ventricular flow tract. This article presents a case of a patient with typical clinical, ECG and MRI findings of ARVD, based on the accepted Task Force criteria and discusses the current status and role of MRI imaging in the diagnosis of ARVD.
