Number density excess of QSOs and initially inhomogeneous cosmologies

The problem of the coordinate density excess of high redshift objects in the Universe compared to nearer sources is considered from the viewpoint of finding an explanation that is mainly due to the geometry of a cosmology and not to evolutionary effects intrinsic to the sources. A simple exact general relativistic model is taken which is inhomogeneous at an early epoch but becomes homogeneous at late epochs. The model gives the number density for a typical observer as n(z) varies as (1 + z)/sup p/ approximately, with 1.5 approximately= to or < p = to or < 5.2. Since the observed exponent is p similarly ordered 5.5, it seems likely that initially inhomogeneous cosmological models in general can explain the major part of the high-z number density excess. 16 references
