Design and development of RF technology for accelerators at VECC
Description
VECC has been carrying out accelerator design, development, construction and operation since the commissioning of India's first large accelerator, K130 Cyclotron. The talk discusses in brief about the development high power RF cavity and high power RF amplifier, in the frequency range of 5.5 to 16.5 MHz, which are still being operated round-the-clock and delivered beam to the users almost uninterruptedly. The detail discussion on the design, development, installation and commissioning experience on the high power RF cavities and final RF amplifiers for the three-phase RF system in the frequency range of 9 to 27 MHz of K500 Superconducting cyclotron. The design philosophy, development and its successful operational performance of the necessary low-level controls will also be discussed. Besides the above tetrode-based high power RF amplifiers, the development of Inductive output tube (IOT) based RF amplifier will be presented. Furthermore, a brief discussion on the development of SRF cavity at VECC will be presented. (author)
