XPS and magnetic study of YBa2Cu3O7-δ irradiated by fast neutrons

Description
High temperature superconducting YBa2Cu3O7-δ sample irradiated with fast neutrons with the influence of 1.2 x 1017 n/cm2, and the nonirradiated reference sample have been studied by means of XPS. It has been found, that the irradiation effects the O 1s, Cu 2p and Ba 3d lines, leaving the Y 3d doublet practically unchanged. The observed changes can be interpreted as due to the increase of the amount of Cu2+ ions, as well as due to the creation of additional oxygen vacancies by neutron irradiation. (author)
