Fuel discharge system for Super Phenix
Description
Similar to the procedure at Phenix, the fuel elements are manoeuvered for discharge into a peripheral position to the core by a grappling device fastened to eccentric rotating plugs, and from there lifted out of the reactor in a sleeve filled with sodium, by means of an inclined elevator, and, in the case of SPX, deposited in a sodium-filled fuel element storage tank alongside the reactor. In March 1987, a leakage was detected at that storage tank loaded until that time only with dummy fuel elements and high-activity core internals. The exact location of that leak took several weeks. To discharge the tank, GNS got the order of supplying three tanks of the TARJAN type to take 12 dummies each. Due to special manufacturing measures, GNS was in a position to deliver those 50-ton tanks within 30 days. (orig./DG)

Wie beim Phenix werden fuer den Entladevorgang die Brennelemente ueber ein an exzentrischen Drehdeckeln befestigtes Greifersystem in eine Peripherieposition zum Kern verbracht und von dort in einer Buechse unter Natrium ueber ein Schraeg-Aufzugssystem aus dem Reaktor gehoben und beim SPX ebenso in einen neben dem Reaktor befindlichen natrium-gefuellten BE-Lagertank abgesetzt. Im Maerz 1987 wurde an diesem bis dahin nur mit BE-Dummies und hochaktiven Core-Einbauten beladenen Lagertank eine Leckage festgestellt, deren genaue Lokalisierung mehrere Wochen in Anspruch nahm. Fuer die Entladung des Tanks erhielt GNS den Auftrag, 3 Behaelter des Typs TARJAN zur Aufnahme von jeweils 12 Dummies zu liefern. Durch besondere Fertigungsmassnahmen konnte GNS diese 50 t-Behaelter binnen 30 Tagen Herstellzeit liefern. (orig./DG)Additional details
