Description
The isoscalar electromagnetic current operator for the two-nucleon system is studied in the Skyrme model using the factorized two-soliton ansatz. In this approach the current appears as a sum of single-soliton currents and an exchange-current operator. The isoscalar electromagnetic current is given by the anomalous baryon number current and is therefore uniquely determined by the topological properties of the Skyrme model. The exchange-current contributions to the rms radius and the electric quadrupole and magnetic dipole moments of the deuteron have been calculated and are found to be small, as required by comparisons with the empirical values.
