Construction and operation of the cold neutron source in FRG-1
Description
The FRG-1 research reactor is a materials testing reactor of the swimming pool type. It was backfitted repeatedly in the course of its 35 years of operation, and after five years of construction and testing, the cold neutron source was commissioned on June 15, 1989. It is being operated within a joint German-Danish project. Since November 1989 the source has been available as a supplier of cold neutrons. The installed power of FRG-1 is 5 MW. The plant is used for isotope production, neutron activation analyses, silicon doping, gamma irradiation, and beamhole experiments. (orig.)

Der Forschungsreaktor FRG-1 ist ein Materialtest-Schwimmbadreaktor. Im Laufe seiner 35 Betriebsjahre wurde er mehrmals nachgeruestet. Die Leistung des FRG-1 betraegt 5 MW. Er dient der Isotopenproduktion. Neutronenaktivierungsanalyse, Dotierung von Silizium, Gammabestrahlung und Strahlrohrexperimente. In einem deutsch-daenischen Gemeinschaftsprojekt wurde am FRG-1 eine Kalte Neutronenquelle errichtet. Sie wurde nach fuenfjaehriger Bau- und Erprobungsphase am 15.6.89 eingeweiht. Seit November 1989 steht die Quelle als Lieferant Kalter Neutronen zur Verfuegung. (orig.)Additional details
