Use of the ADINA (Automatic Dynamic Incremental Nonlinear Analysis) computer code on a COSA II (Computer Codes for Salt) benchmark computer case of the local area - progress report 1990
Description
The COSA II (computer codes for salt) benchmark problem has been pursued with the ADINA (Automatic Dynamic Incremental Nonlinear Analysis) program code. With the use of this, the code should be validated by means of experimental data and the ability to reproduce real-life calculation results of the KfK (Kernforschungszentrum Karlsruhe/Nuclear Research Center in Karlsruhe) should be proven. A successful validation of the code then forms the foundation stone for the ability to use different calculation problems in the final (ultimate) storage. This also accompanies the consequent reaction of replacing the STEALTH (Solids and Thermal Hydraulics Code for EPRI Adapted from LAGRANGE TOODY and HEMP) program which has a number of program-specific weaknesses compared to the ADINA computer code. In order to reproduce the approximate values from the KfK, the same values have been used. Differences were evident in the discretion and the selection of the initial values for pressure and temperature. Furthermore, different codes for the thermatical calculation have been used (ASYTE-KA by the KfK and ADINA-T by the GRS (Gesellschaft fuer Reaktorsicherheit/Commission for Reactor Safety). Outstanding conformance with the experiment and the data prognosed by the KfK has been achieved in all benchmarks (IFC (Isothermal Free Convergence), HPP (Heated Pressure Probe) and HFCP (Heated Free Convergence Probe)). An exception is the overrated voltage curves in the HPP trial for the positions near drill hole (A, B, C and D). These most likely are a programming result at the time t0 = 0 when heater is in contact with the drill hole wall. (orig./HP)
