Design, training, operation: The critical links. An operator's perspective

  • 1. GPU Nuclear Corp., Middletown, PA (USA)

Description

The paper presents an operator's perspective on the Three Mile Island Unit 2 (TMI-2) accident. The scope of the paper ranges from understanding and dealing with the transient to how current training techniques have improved operational ability. Advice for engineers and analysts about how to deal with the operator/engineer interface is followed by concerns about how well the lessons from the TMI-2 accident have been applied. The author draws from personal experience as the operator principally responsible for the control boards during the first part of the TMI-2 accident. Subsequently he has served as an instructor for operator and engineering personnel. (author). 4 refs
