Optimization of secondary water chemistry of US PWRs

  • 1. Electric Power Research Inst., Palo Alto, CA (United States)
  • 2. Southern Nuclear Co., Birmingham, AL (United States)

Description

Recent changes in secondary system chemistry control in PWRs have aimed to reduce steam generator corrosion and performance degradation. This paper discusses the water chemistry options that have been developed and implemented in US PWRs to eliminate or reduce steam generator damage, and to minimize corrosion and operation and maintenance costs in the remainder of the secondary system.
