Λ hyperons and K0 production in Cp-and CC-interactions at 4.2 GeV/c per nucleon

Description

Production of Λ hyperons and Ksub(s)sup(0) mesons in Cp, CC, and multinucleon CC interaction was studied. Images obtained at the JINR synchrophasotron in irradiation of two-meter propane chamber with carbon nuclei with a momentum of 4.2 GeV/c per nucleon were used in the paper. Approximately 90 thouth of images were examined. 219 Λ hyperons and 105 Ksub(s)sup(0) mesons attributed to interactions in the chamber effective volume satisfied selection criteria after measurements and computation according to the GEOPhIT program. Mean multiplicities and also inclusive cross sections of Λ and Ksub(s)sup(0) production in the studied types of interactions are determined. On the average, greater multiplicity (n) of charged particles is observed in CC interactions with Λ and Ksub(s)sup(0) production as compared to all inelastic CC interactions: (nsub(+-))sub(cc)sup(Λ, Ksup(0)) approximately 1.3(nsub(+-))sub(cc)sup(in)). This effect was not observed for multinucleon CC interactions. Distributions of Λ and Ksub(s)sup(0) particles over kinematic variables: transfr momentum (Psub(lab)) longitudinal rapidity (Ysub(lab)), cos THETAsub(NN) (where THETAsub(NN)] is an angle in the nucleon-nucleon C.M.S. and transverse momentum (Psub(perpendicular)), are presented
