Stability of hollow superconductor with steady heat input

Description
A calculation method is described for determining the steady-state temperature profile of a hollow superconductor, part of which is in the state of flux flow by heating. From the temperature profile the stability of the hollow superconductor can be determined. The criterion for stable operation is that the temperature of the superconductor at the downsteam end doesnot exceed (1 - I/Isub(c). The stability is found to be stongly influenced not only by Stekly's parameter but also by a flow parameter, which is inversely proportional to (Re)sup(0.6). (author)
