Description
A focusing monochromator consisting of three cylindrically bent Si(311) crystals was constructed and tested. It was designed for a powder diffractometer using neutron wavelengths of about 0.15 nm. The device provides a fixed curvature in the vertical plane and allows a continuously variable bending in the scattering plane. The vertical focusing increased the neutron current at the sample position by a factor of about 2.5. By horizontal focusing the resolution of the powder lines can be adapted to the range of interest.
