Research and application of laser caliper measurement on the diameter of the spherical fuel element

Description

The diameter of fuel element, which is a full-inspection measurement, is one of the important parameters to affect pebble flow of spherical fuel element. Therefore, it's important to develop a method to realize the accurate and fast measurement. In this paper, a novel method of testing the diameter of fuel element by laser measurement was introduced. The testing principle of laser diameter measurement instrument was described, and the uncertainty of the novel method was analysed. The results show the total standard uncertainty of the method is 3 μm, and the expanded uncertainty is 6 μm. which can satisfy the design requirement. And this method is also very efficient for engineering application. (authors)
