Method for measurements the neutron absorption cross-section

A detailed description of a method for measuring the neutron absorption section is presented. The method is absolute and includes registration of both scattered and passed neutrons. The number of detector counts is measured for two mutual arrangements of the scatterer and specimen. In the first test, the neutron beam first reaches the scatterer and then the specimen. In the second case, the positions of the scatterer and the specimen are interchanged. The difference between the detector counts for the two cases is proportional to the number of neutrons absorption sections of slow neutrons with energies of 0.025 eV is described for V, Ni, Sc, Yb and Au nuclei
